Tree Trimming

Our tree trimming is undertaken by our qualified Arborists. Trimming will often be undertaken to clear electricity service lines, over roofs, swimming pools, driveways etc. We can also thin trees to increase light and winter sun into the property. Trimming of deadwood is common to reduce the risk of branch failure in certain tree species.

There are different forms of tree trimming and differing reasons for the trimming to be undertaken:

Deadwood Removal

Dead branches within a tree in certain species will naturally shed from the tree at any given time. To ensure the safety of your family and neighbors, these can be successfully trimmed from the tree. Crown thinning is the trimming of the tree by approximately 10% removing small diameter secondary branches of 50mm or smaller while still maintaining the structure and shape of the tree. The advantages of crown thinning are to increase sunlight into a property, particularly winter sun and to aid in air circulation.

Lopping is not recommended as the natural shape of the tree is destroyed and the growth pattern is altered. The tree may become dangerous with the re-growth weakly attached to the trunk and therefore susceptible to decay. The life span of the tree is reduced.

Selective Tree Trimming

This is the removal of specifically identified branches, often to gain clearance over buildings or remove diseased or decayed branches, prevent animals from gaining access to the roof or power line clearance.

• Crown liftingis trimming the lowest branches in the canopy to provide clearance for visual security or room for under planting.
• Remedial(restorative) trimming is the removal of damaged, diseased or lopped branches back to healthy, undamaged timber. This is carried out to promote or induce new shoots to create a new canopy, often undertaken on over mature, declining trees. This is an option to save your loved tree and prolong its life span.
• Reduction trimmingis the pruning of a tree to reduce a tree's height back to lower internal lateral branches. This is often undertaken to maintain a view from a property or simply to contain the size of a tree. Unfortunately, not all trees can be crown reduced due to branch structure.
• Formative trimmingthis is undertaken when the tree is young. The goal is to create a well shaped safe tree. Any weak junctions prone to failure are trimmed from the tree including crossing branches.

Tree Removal

Tree removal provides benefits to our community and climate stability. All trees have a finite life expectancy and removal is the last option when trees cannot be pruned to reduce a hazard or structural damage is being caused.

Stump Removal

Not all stumps can be removed using a stump grinder. Professional arborists have a few tricks up their sleeves for removing difficult tree stumps.

Leveraged removal:Depending on the circumstances. This method requires manual or mechanical digging around the base of the stump, detaching any roots that might be problematic, and then applying appropriate leverage through a chain block system to pull the stump out of the ground.

Manual removal:This is the hardest way to remove a tree stump, by digging it out manually. This sometimes is the only option if the stump is located in a hazardous or confined location.

Chemical removal:This method requires a chemical stump removal product to be applied onto the stump to promote the decay of the stump. Stump removers are normally made of potassium nitrate (KNO3) and take between 4-6 weeks to make the stump rotten enough for it to be removed in fragmented pieces. The limitations of this method are the use of chemicals and it lacks immediate results. Sometimes people set stumps on fire after chemical treatment to speed up the removal process because the potassium nitrated once absorbed acts as an oxidizer, but we do not encourage this method as it is dangerous, and stump grinding is a fair superior, safer, and quicker option.

Stump Grinding

After a tree is removed, stump grinding is a service that we offer to remove the tree stump in order to allow a garden bed to be replanted or so that the area can be landscaped. tree removals can provide tree stump grinding for large tree stumps as well as small tree stumps.
